The mandatory structural survey of residential apartment buildings
Since the “Habitat dégradé” (substandard housing) Act of 9 April 2024, a structural survey may be made mandatory for certain at-risk residential apartment buildings.
It aims to help local authorities identify weakened buildings and prevent danger to occupants.
The scheme applies to buildings more than 15 years old located in areas defined by a decision of the municipal council.
The survey, carried out by a qualified professional, assesses the soundness of the building and any works required.
An exemption applies if the building is already covered by a compliant multi-year works plan (PPPT).
